Good Visit...Good Vibes

After all the drama, here's a nice light uplifting post. I think we could all use one.

Fleming helped me make my appointment with my hand specialist today. Because I was still sore from surgery, she literally pushed me out the door from across the inside of her car to drop me off. Today she was both a welcomed companion in waiting and the doctor's office as well as the ultimate pharmaceutical collector/enforcer. She was like the greatest percription bouty hunter off all time. The red tape would have easily tied up Boba Fett like the arms of the Sarlacc on Toatooine. Duane "Dog" Chapman doesn't have the brains under that dreadlocked mullet to calculate the odd ways to fill scripts to get around insurance company's BS regarding what they think I should be taking for pain. Insurance companies beware! Fleming will get creative with dosage sizes and refill times, run across the clinic in Flip-Flops and lime green back pack to get new persciptions, flying past the front desk area to make sure everything gets in under the wire so her baby brother has the pain medication he needs. Thanks Fleming, no matter what we're doing, it's always a good time. You Rock.

We had a lengthy discussion with an intern who we gradually persuaded to believe we weren't retards (no offense, Mac). After telling him the whole story, which was in the chart in front of him, I explained to him the details of having just been discharged following a thoroscopy two days ago. I then explained my whole pain situation, and yes, how it did hurt everywhere in my hand (like my chart said), especially when you have it twisted upside down with the fingers pulled every direction except where they wanted to go. At that point I reminded him that I had just had surgery that week and that he could stop acting out Jack Bower fantasies. Did I mention it was all in a file sitting in his lap? What a retard...

Truthfully it was an inspirational appointment. The hand specialist was absolutely amazed at how well I could move my fingers. What seemed like a limited range of motion to me showed true promise to the doctor. The forearm and hand especially had the odds stacked against them, from the surgeries, to the radiations, to the grafting, and even the extended immobilization time. There was very little muscle trying to pull my fingers through a cement wall of scar tissue. When he saw them move today, he said it was one of the reasons he found purpose in his job and life. He really said, "Your fingers are moving, and I don't know where it's coming from." His positive attitude and optimistic view of the future really summed up how we feel and want to see this challenge through. Perseverance, determination, attitude and faith and guts from everyone will generate the positive energy needed to make miracles happen. Let's be honest...great medicine helps, as does prayer, God Himself, and well-mastered holistic treatments. Friendships, family, and all the support they create and provide are incredibly crucial. The ladies in my life are tough to beat. Ash, Ruth, Fleming and Betty are a force to be reckoned with. They have a perfect track record and a "Get'R Dun" attitude when it comes to helping. Again, thanks to everyone from the surgeons to the people I don't even know mailing me loving "get well" cards.

CP,
When I woke up this morning, I was hoping to read a positive "Chronicles" report. You are surely due for some good vibes. You guys have been dealt some rough cards here recently, but you are piecing together a good hand (pun intended). Keep it going. Wishing you the best and praying for your health.

- isaac

ps - your beloved pca machine is a real beauty. i've seen that look before. it in involved a funnel, jim beam, and a bug zapper. you shouldn't remember. "you know, he's got that look..."

I just wanted to let all of you know a few things about the doctor's visit that CP's too modest to mention; and why after a really hard week I think there's just too much good news not to share.

1) The doctor told CP that his recovery is amazing and that his tenacity and will to get better are -- and he actually used these words -- "the positive reinforcement that he needed to keep him feeling rewarded by his job."

2)Besides trying to keep from crying he also mentioned how much he had become attached to CP, his family, and friends and that has made him feel rewarded and honored to be CP's doctor.

3) I also delighted in the fact that when CP showed him the strength in his hand (after the intern had cranked it so hard to check his motion I thought CP would pass out) he literally jumped back and marveled at this strength. He sat there slack jaw wanting to know where the muscle was that could do this because he has removed pretty much everything in there.

Lastly ... I'm hoping some little fairy got its wings by upgrading CP's hand from "helper hand" model 2.0 to just a regular old hand model 1.5 (closer to the original.) Again I was brought to tears by the phrase "I'm in this for the long haul."

CP has been so encouraged by everyone who reads and posts on this blog. I know that much of the strength that is in that arm is the manifestation of the love we all feel for CP. We should all be proud and rewarded to have a friend like CP who harnesses all the good vibes we send to make himself stronger. If we all stay committed to supporting CP "for the long haul" we will all be able to share in the horror of him tossing our first born so high that there is chocolate rain.

for the over 40 set ...

Clyde and Ashley,
Every time I read this blog, I'm amazed and moved beyond belief, although I'm not at all surprised that you are bringing your doctors to tears and causing them to have their own profound realizations about life while treating you.
Love to you both,
Tollison

it's really great to hear this wonderful news. i also want to thank flemming for including that link to "chocolate rain". i have now spent the last two hours listening to not only the original, but remixes, by darth vader, mcgruff the crime dog, and a vanilla ice wannabe doing a parody called "vanilla snow". after that marathon i think i need some accupuncture...

keep bringing the good news!

CP - I can't believe in your last post that you went from a pretty deep and involved 'Star Wars' reference, straight into a 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' allusion. I mean talk about your "range of motion!!!" And even with all those drugs running through you!!

Flem - warn me next time to wait until after work to open such a site ... i can't get that song out of my head. And what about that dude's LACK of "range." CP's fingers have more range than that guy. ..... {chirp, chirp} ... No? Anyone? Ah, whadaya you know from funny?

Much Love from the Hutchens (extended clan) to the Harrises and Vermillions!!!

So good to hear that news -- Fleming - thanks for saying what CP was too modest to mention. You really are an inspiration and many of us will be drawing strength from you in the future because we will all have our trials -- you are showing us how to do it with grace.

On a side note, I am with Soave, I just spent wwwayyyyy too much time on you tube watching different versions of chocolate rain :)

We love you!!

Clyde,

The arm looks awesome! It's truly spectacular and much much better than that burnt bbq chicken theme you had going on a while back. It's great to hear the fingers are wigglin'. Keep up the hard work, but don't cross any lines that require you to give up the crossbow. I'm looking forward to seeing what that thing can do to a critter.

Kudos to all the ladies who are so diligently and lovingly getting your big hairy hind quarters where it needs to be. You all are very special and inspiring.

As always: geterdid my friend,
Jayme and Leigh Ann

CP,
You, Ashley and a quick recovery are in our prayers. We look forward to seeing you soon and when you feel up to it...some bird hunting. Keep your spirit strong.
PS...I've seen you look worse in South Dakota than the pca could ever make you look.
With love,
Marlene, Paul, Eli, Paul IV
